Interested in singing with us in the future?

Trendafilka is a polyphonic choir based in New Orleans, Louisiana that studies and performs both traditional (village style) and modern (choral style) folk songs from Eastern and Northeastern Europe. Our musical focus is polyphony: a non-hierarchical style of song where multiple, equally important melodies weave together to create a textured sound that is greater than the sum of its parts. This style of support, rather than competition, is key to our sound, our performances, and to the heart and culture of the group.

We are not a specifically gendered (read: women’s) choir. That said, our repertoire centers traditional women's songs of Eastern European cultures, including women's work songs, ritual songs, lyrical songs, and and choral arrangements, and we sing in soprano and alto range (with some singers reaching contralto!).

We are also not exclusively from Eastern Europe or the diaspora. Some of our members were born and raised in Eastern Europe, but regardless of heritage we all share a love and reverence for the traditional musical cultures that we study, and we devote time and energy to studying languages, history, and cultural practices of the areas from which our songs were born.

We are looking to expand the group by one or two members in the coming season, and will be auditioning singers in Spring 2023 to join the group by Fall 2023. If you love to sing, if you think you'd be a good fit for our group, and if you have time, energy and love to devote to this ensemble, please follow the below link to fill out the following questionnaire and/or get in touch with us directly to answer the following questions through an alternate format.  Deadline is April 9th, 2023. Thank you!!!
